Markets staged a broad intraday rally on US midterm election day, with the S&P 500 touching 7,594 and QQQ hitting 688.65, only to give back much of those gains into the close. VIX settled at 20.83 — still in elevated territory — and NYSE advancers were outnumbered by decliners 1,028 to 1,686, suggesting the headline index gains masked a deteriorating tape underneath.
Options positioning shifted in important ways. SPY's call wall dropped from 760 to 755 since the midday brief, and SPY's last print of 755.31 sat just above that level. Meanwhile, five large SPX put blocks and sweeps totaling roughly $465M in premium landed during the session, all with bearish or hedge-oriented reads. How price digests those flows overnight into Wednesday's session will be the key story.
GEX walls are price levels where dealers hedge aggressively. Price tends to gravitate toward Max Pain and stall near walls.
